Little Small Town - Ash Carr

Visit any open mic night or music venue in Suffolk and it is highely likely that Ash Carr has played there. Ash is a prolific performer and when he's not performing, he is writing his own music. Luckily for us, there's a lot of new material on the way.

First up, we have 'Little Small Town': a song that's in the final stages of recording and is soon to be released on streaming platforms. You can listen to a live version of this song on Ash's youtube channel.

Ash's music has always felt introspective and personal - Little Small Town is a perfect example of this. Nonetheless, there is a sense of ambiguity and mystery to the meaning of the song. As the listener you can't help but ask questions...is the song about past experiences? Personal struggles? Is it a life lesson?

After speaking with Ash, it seems the song was born from a place of discovery, trying to figure out who you are in the present moment by looking back to the past. The audience is invited to join Ash in this process and find their own meaning within the song. This feels central to Ash’s writing process.

The first song Ash ever released 'Blinded' is a particular favourite at open mic nights. The pop like catchiness of the melody, the R & B vocals and the simplicity of a guitar and voice live performance all showcase Ash's ability to borrow from different genres to create his unique style. A style of writing that is grave, serious and abstract yet still very memorable and relatable. A style that is becoming more and more recognisable as his own.

Ash is definitely an artist to watch…his music career is gaining momentum every week. From starting at open mic nights, he has now played BBC events, Folk East and countless other festivals across East Anglia. Listen to his music and don't miss out.
